Chintz, cotton in bloom

The Textiel Factorij is taking part in the first exhibition in a serie of three at the Fries Museum, ‘Chintz, cotton in bloom’. Dutch artists and designers have created work in collaboration with Indian craftsmen, who still practice century old crafts. The VOC (Dutch East India Company) first introduced these colourful chintz, which first became popular among the aristocrates and slowly also influenced the regional costumes of the Netherlands. They were so beloved because of the vibrant colours and its fastness.

The exhibition takes place from the 11th of March until the 10th of September 2017.
