ASLI HATIPOGLU

Artist

Biography

Asli completed her bachelor in Textile Art & Design in Amsterdam at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy. For her graduation exhibition she explored her different perspectives as a chef-cook, textile weaver, artist, and journalist.

Through a practice of cooking in different environments and reflecting upon those experiences in writing, she furthers this practice by exploring possible ways of translating these stories into textile, by attempting to construct a fabric of interwoven stories.

Currently, Asli is exploring the relationship of cloth as a manufactured product with respect to the impacts and influences production and consumption of cloth have on people in contemporary society. Her practice is also an attempt to preserve ancestral techniques as a means by which we may be able to regain a sense of value and purpose in both what we eat and what we wear.
