Alya Hessy is a visual artist who operates in the world between the body and textiles. She researches processes of textile making, investigating their hidden meanings. Stretching the boundaries, she aims to materialise the intangible and place it in a new light. For Textiel Factorij she focussed on the old Indian craft of hand block-printing (kalamkari), researching perceptions of perfection, the value of mistakes and the delicate balance of imperfection.
Alya graduated with honours from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2015. She lives and works in the area of Amsterdam.
