Anastasia Starostenko is a textile artist born in Russia and currently based in Amsterdam. Trained in art history and textile art, in her practice she is not restricting herself to a specific side of artistic domain but rather balancing between two different disciplines, combining theory with practice, writing with making, concept with visual work, craft with art.
In 2015 she graduated from Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam (NL) with the project dedicated to the gift economy as well as reviving and reestablishing the role of traditional textile techniques in our today’s society through processing the material of wool by hand.
For the past three years she’s been integrating textile in areas such as performance, architecture, fashion and costume design; collaborating with craft communities and artists/designers in different countries all over the world.
